collective giving:
the charleston artist collective is committed to gifting 15% of sales to a specified charity.
It is important to our group as local artists and community members to contribute back to our community. Since 2009, we have made donations to Camp Happy Days, Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Rural Missions, Carolina Youth Development, Carolina Studios, Lowcountry Open Land Trust, My Sister’s House, Share our Suzy, the Footlight Player’s Theatre, the Halsey Institute for Contemporary Art, Charleston Moves, Operation Home, Center for Women, Yes Carolina, Spoleto and Teacher’s Supply Closet and others.
Our charity this month is Camp Good Times.
For June and July, 15% of our sales are going to benefit Camp Good Times. Camp Good Times is the Lowcountry's camp devoted to providing children and adolescents with autism a summer camp experience. They work to foster social skills opportunities, building friendships and raising awareness. Beyond the school setting, which can be limited in inclusion opportunities for many children, there are no other organized camp opportunities of this kind available in the tri-county area for children with autism. Camp Good Times allows for typically developing children and children on the spectrum to come together to learn from one another, share with each other and grow together during their time at camp.
Camp Good Times' mission is threefold:
- to provide activities for people with autism within the community;
- to promote interaction between people with autism and their peers;
- and to offer training opportunities to the community to increase understanding and awareness of people with autism.
