Slava Roubanov immigrated to USA from Russia in the early 90s. He graduated from the prestigious Sourikov Art Institute of Painting and Sculpture as a Theater and Film set designer in Moscow. He was an apprentice under some of the best stage designers at the time of Kourileno and Rynden; who were creating for the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
During a 15 year career in the former Soviet Union, Slava designed sets, lights, and costumes for more than 80 theatrical productions in over 35 professional theaters; including drama, opera, ballet, musical, and childrens theater. He was honored six times with inclusions in the Moscow Theatrical Unions annual exhibitions of the seasons best works of Moscow's scenic designers.
Since immigrating to the US, Slava has been employed as a freelance, staff artist drafter, and designer. He has lived in Charleston since 2003.
