I find ultimate freedom in abstract expressionism and as such, I’m in search of the best way to convey who I am at the moment of creating. It is not to say it is a free-for-all; there is still structure within. I implement the same principles that realist painters employ with the absence of representation: composition, hierarchy, variety, juxtaposition are vital to a successful painting. But I do not limit myself to one medium or the other. I work in oil, acrylics and gouache and depending on what I’m exploring at the time I will choose one or more to express it. I also explore through a combination of paint and collage. It is through all of these various methods and mediums that I am able to share my fullest expression of self and my authenticity. My paintings ultimately are self portraits that are created from both past experiences and also future hopes and dreams. It is my goal to invoke a feeling for the viewer.
