Tim Hussey

Tim Hussey is from Charleston, SC and currently resides there with his wife and two girls. He received his Bachelors in Fine Arts in 1992 from Rhode Island School of Design, spending his junior year at Parsons, Paris. After graduating he moved to New York City and landed a job at MTV, producing large-scale paintings during live programming. The exposure launched an award-winning editorial illustration and art direction career, showcasing Tim’s art and design in everything from Rolling Stone and GQ to The New York Times and Esquire, UK. At the same time, he began teaching related courses at The School of Visual Arts, NY. In 2000, while spending a year in Santa Fe, Hussey made a conscious decision to shift his career toward contemporary painting. His art utilizes various media and contrasting subject matter to cross-pollinate and suggest a bigger picture, a narrative that has no end or beginning but urges the viewer to look deeper at its implications. Tim has been represented in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, Charleston and Atlanta. His paintings have been exhibited in key solo exhibitions at Merry Karnowsky (LA), Shepard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects (LA), Nashville International Airport, Art Basel Miami, the prestigious Watermill Center (NY), and his retrospective “Drown Then Swim” at the Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC. He has paintings in the collections of Shepard Fairey, Renee Zellweger, Duncan Sheik, Adrian Grenier, Russell Tovey and Paul F. Tompkins. In 2009, Adam Boozer produced a documentary on Tim’s life and artwork, entitled “Running By Sight” which was an official selection at the DocMiami Film Festival and was aired at Comic-Con, 2011. His murals can be seen in Santa Monica at the studio of Larry David and his memorial to the Mother Emanuel shootings can be seen in Charleston, SC. Hussey’s art has appeared in: Print + Digital: The New York Times Magazine, Dwell, Elle Décor, Huffington Post, Architectural Digest, Harper’s, American Art Collector, Garden & Gun, Remodelista, Real Simple, NYArts Magazine and his book Drown Then Swim (forward by Shepard Fairey). TV Shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Chance (Hulu)
